Death of Steve Pinker ex 3RGJ
Permalink Closed

Hi all,

I've established contact with and indeed have this evening spoken to his ex-wife Sharon. She and the family are keen that the regiment (former friends from his RGJ days) should attend his funeral and provide a "presence". As stated in the tribute in his local papers, he remained very proud of his RGJ days and I have agreed to be her point of contact with us, and for his parents should they wish to do so.

Funeral details may be slow in forthcoming as the nature of his death will result in his body being withheld for about a month.

Please may I suggest guys, that this is not the place for discussion about the nature of his passing or the repercussions of it. Those details can be found elsewhere. Can I ask that this place be reserved for messages of condolence, messages and tales of memorial and the passing of information regarding his funeral, which I will post here as I get them.

Please allow good sense and good taste to prevail here.

Bill.

I have many happy & amusing memories of our time spent as a young & impressionable Rfn together, before we really grew up & life became so serious.

Steve Pinker - Funeral details
Permalink Closed

Hi all.
Steve's funeral has been set for next Friday, 18th April at 12.00 at the Oxford Crematorium in Headington, Oxford. I'll put the post-code on here when I have it for any sat-nav users.
Sharon, his ex-wife and his parents and children would like as many of us as possible to attend. He was, as it said in the local news feature, very proud of his RGJ days.
Sharon also said that she'd love it if we could find an RGJ flag and a cap and belt between us to go on the coffin and through the local "brotherhood" here around Warminster, we achived that within about an hour.
The family have agreed also that they'd like us to carry him. Sharon has 4 names in mind for this already but we will need 2 more. If anyone else would like to join us in that, again please let me know.

If anyone can get hold of Douggie Foster or Jock Wilson, or anyone else that knew Steve to pass on the news and details, I'd appreciate it hugely.

Finally, little Robbo, Paul Rogers and Mark Sharman, get in touch:

So sorry to hear of the passing of a friend and fellow rifleman. I knew Steve in and out of the Battalion. A brilliant man to serve alongside and a good friend to have on the outside. Goodbye Steve, and may we all meet up one day for another muster parade up above. Condolences to your family and friends.
